Knight Rider Cast: Then and Now

The original Knight Rider (1982-1986) featured a small but memorable cast. Here's what happened to the main players.

David Hasselhoff — Michael Knight

Then: The lead actor who played Michael Knight (formerly LAPD Detective Michael Long). Hasselhoff was 30 when the show started and became an international star.

Now: At 73, Hasselhoff lives in Los Angeles with his wife Hayley Roberts (age 45). He remains active in entertainment and has done reality TV, music, and occasional acting roles. He also owns the rights to Knight Rider (bought them from Glen Larson for $1 million around 2006), though he couldn't get a project off the ground and the rights have since moved on. He's currently supportive of the 2025 film reboot in development at Universal.

William Daniels — Voice of KITT

Then: The voice of KITT, though he never appeared on camera. Daniels was simultaneously starring as Dr. Mark Craig in the medical drama "St. Elsewhere."

Now: At 92, Daniels is best known to younger generations as Mr. Feeny from "Boy Meets World" and its revival "Girl Meets World." He reprised the role in 2015. His most recent role was voicing KITT in the 2023 film "Superintelligence."

Patricia McPherson — Dr. Bonnie Barstow

Then: The lead mechanic and electronics expert. She appeared in Seasons 1 and 3, but was replaced in Season 2 by Rebecca Holden (April Curtis) after what she called an "unpleasant" departure. She was brought back after fans protested.

Now: At 71, McPherson retired from acting in 1991. She has spent three decades as an environmental activist, working to preserve the Ballona Wetlands in Southern California. In early 2026, she was spotted repairing her roof at her Los Angeles home.

Rebecca Holden — April Curtis

Then: The replacement mechanic in Season 2, bringing what producers called "more sex appeal." Her character was written out when Bonnie returned.

Now: Holden continues to work in the entertainment industry and does charity work and public appearances. She's been a regular guest at KnightCon events in the UK, where she's remained popular with fans.

Peter Parros — RC3 (Reginald Cornelius III)

Then: The Chicago street vigilante who became a main character in Season 4, driving the F.L.A.G. Mobile Command Center (the "Semi") and occasionally joining Michael on missions.

Now: At 63, Parros has had a steady acting career. He played Judge David Harrington on OWN's "The Haves and the Have Nots" from 2013-2020. He also appeared in the BET+ series "The Final Say" and has done guest spots on shows like "Scorpion" and "Lethal Weapon." He remains involved with Knight Rider fandom and made appearances at KnightCon.

Edward Mulhare — Devon Miles

Then: The head of the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG) who mentored Michael.

Now: Mulhare passed away in 1997 from lung cancer at age 74. He was a well-established actor before Knight Rider and also starred in "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir" TV series.

Richard Basehart — Narrator / Voice of Wilton Knight

Then: The deep, authoritative voice that opened each episode and provided narration. Basehart was a respected film and TV actor.

Now: Basehart died in 1984 at age 70 from a stroke, before the series ended.
